Terms of Service
Effective October 4, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Nisabify (“Nisabify”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Nisabify website at nisabify.com (and any other address where Nisabify serves it) and the Nisabify apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, which these terms call “Nisabify” or “the service”. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what information Nisabify keeps and why.
- Nisabify’s zakat figures are estimates worked out from what you enter. They are not a fatwa. The rulings Nisabify applies are sourced but have not been reviewed by a scholar, so ask a qualified scholar about your own situation.
- Nothing in Nisabify is financial, tax, investment or legal advice.
- Nisabify does not hold or move your money. When you give, you give on the charity’s own website, and the gift is between you and the charity.
- Nisabify is free. It has no ads and no in-app purchases.
- You must be 18 or older to use Nisabify.
- You can delete your account at any time.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By using Nisabify, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Nisabify.
You may use Nisabify for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.
Nisabify was called Mizan until October 4, 2026. Only the name changed: it is the same service, run by the same operator, and your account and records are the same.
2. Who can use Nisabify
Nisabify is a personal-finance tool for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use it, and by using it you confirm that you are.
Before you can use Nisabify, it asks for your date of birth. If you are under 18, you cannot continue; you can sign out, or delete your account, from that screen. Nisabify uses your date of birth once, to check your age, and does not store it. It records only that you confirmed you are 18 or over, and when.
Nisabify is built for people in the United States. Amounts are in US dollars, the charities it lists are US tax-exempt organizations, and connecting accounts works with US institutions only.
3. What Nisabify does
Nisabify helps you:
- choose your school of fiqh (Ḥanafī, Mālikī, Shāfiʿī or Ḥanbalī) and related settings, such as the nisab standard, a lunar or solar year, and how retirement accounts are treated;
- enter your accounts, assets and debts, and see an estimate of the zakat on them, with the working that produced it;
- keep track of your zakat year (ḥawl);
- go to a charity’s own website to give, and keep your own record of what you gave;
- export your giving record.
Nisabify has a Connect accounts option that uses Plaid to read the balances, holdings and debts of your US accounts. It cannot connect a real account yet: for now it reaches only Plaid’s test institutions. Section 7 describes how it works.
You need a Nisabify account to use Nisabify, on the website and in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. You can sign in with an email address and password everywhere, and with Google where Nisabify offers it. Sign in with Apple is offered on iPhone and iPad only, not on Android or the website (see section 8).
Nisabify is free to use. It has no ads and no in-app purchases. If we ever decide to charge for any part of Nisabify, we will tell you before that happens, and you will never be charged for something you did not agree to pay for.
We may add, change or remove features over time.
4. Zakat figures are estimates, not religious rulings
- Nisabify works out a figure from the information you enter (such as balances, weights, debts, dates and prices) and the settings you choose. If that information is incomplete, out of date or wrong, the figure will be too. Nisabify shows its working so that you can check it.
- Nisabify does not yet apply every recorded position exactly. In particular, it currently deducts debts the same way under the Ḥanafī and Ḥanbalī settings. Check the working against your own school before you rely on a figure.
- The gold and silver prices Nisabify uses for the nisab threshold, and to value any gold or silver you hold, are entered by hand, not fetched live. Until you change them, Nisabify uses its own default prices, dated as shown in Settings. Check them before you rely on a figure.
- The rulings Nisabify applies come from a ruling set labelled “Sourced, not scholar-reviewed”. Each position in it is recorded with its source, but no named scholar has reviewed the set. The version in use is shown next to each figure.
- A Nisabify figure is an estimate. It is not a fatwa or a religious ruling, and Nisabify does not decide whether you owe zakat, how much, or when. Labels such as “Zakat due now” describe the estimate under your settings, not a ruling on your obligation. Consult a qualified scholar for your situation.
5. Not financial, tax, investment or legal advice
Nisabify is a calculator and a record-keeper. Nothing in Nisabify, including these terms, is financial, tax, investment, accounting or legal advice, and using Nisabify does not make us your adviser or fiduciary. For decisions about your money, your taxes or your legal position, talk to a qualified professional.
Nisabify’s giving record is a record of what you told Nisabify you gave. It is not a receipt and it is not tax advice. A gift is generally tax-deductible only if it went to a qualifying US organization; payments to individuals or to family generally are not, and most gifts to foreign organizations are not. Keep the receipt each charity sends you: that, not Nisabify’s record, is what supports a deduction.
6. Giving: Nisabify never holds your money
- Nisabify does not hold, receive, process or transfer money. The Give links open the charity’s own website. Any donation you make there is between you and that charity: the charity takes the payment, is the charity of record, and issues your receipt.
- The organizations Nisabify lists are US charities whose tax-exempt status was looked up in IRS records (the IRS Exempt Organizations Business Master File, via ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer) on the date shown in Nisabify. That confirms US tax-exempt status and nothing more. A listing is not an endorsement, and it is not a ruling that giving to that organization discharges your zakat. Nisabify has not assessed that; it is a question for a scholar.
- Charity websites are run by the charities, not by Nisabify. We are not responsible for their content, for how they take payments, for what they do with your gift, or for whether their links keep working.
- Recording a gift in Nisabify only updates your own record. Nisabify does not send it to the charity.
- Whether a gift is tax-deductible, and keeping the evidence for it, is a matter for you and the charity.
7. Connecting accounts (real accounts not yet available)
- Connect accounts, on the website and in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, connects your bank, card, loan, investment and retirement accounts through Plaid, a service provided by Plaid Inc. It cannot connect a real account yet: for now it reaches only Plaid’s test institutions. Until that changes, Nisabify tells you so before it opens Plaid’s page; what connects is Plaid’s sample bank, not yours, and nothing from it is kept or counted in your figures. It works only with US institutions and balances in US dollars. You need a Nisabify account to connect one.
- You sign in to your institution on a page run by Plaid. Nisabify does not receive your sign-in details.
- The connection is read-only. Through it Nisabify reads your account balances, the holdings in your investment and retirement accounts, and your debts: what you owe on credit cards and loans, and when the next payment is due. The connection also includes permission for your transactions; Nisabify does not read them yet. Nisabify does not ask for the permissions that payments, transfers or withdrawals need, so it cannot use the connection to move money.
- Nisabify keeps, for each institution, its name, Plaid’s references for the connection and an encrypted access token, and for each account its name, type and each value it reads, with the date. It also keeps a record that you agreed, with the version of the wording and the date. To make the connection Nisabify sends Plaid your Nisabify account’s ID, not your name or email address. The Privacy Policy has the details.
- A connected credit card or loan is counted as a debt, never as something you own. A card balance is treated as due now and a loan as long-term; your school’s rules then decide what is deducted. An overdrawn bank account, or an investment account worth less than nothing, is counted as a debt due now. An account that is not in US dollars is skipped.
- Nisabify updates connected accounts when you connect them, when you open your Wealth page and the last reading is more than 12 hours old, when you choose Update now on the website, and when Plaid reports a change. Figures come from your institution through Plaid and can be late or wrong. You cannot edit a connected account or debt in Nisabify, so check the figures before you rely on them; if one is wrong, disconnect the institution and enter the account manually.
- Each connected institution has a Disconnect button on the Wealth page. It ends the connection at Plaid and takes that institution’s accounts and debts out of your calculation. If a connection stops working, Nisabify marks it as needing to be reconnected and cannot read it until you choose Reconnect. Deleting your Nisabify account disconnects every institution.
- Your use of Plaid’s service is governed by Plaid’s own terms and by its End User Privacy Policy. Plaid, not Nisabify, is responsible for Plaid’s service.
8. Your account
- You can create a Nisabify account with your email address and a password of at least 8 characters. Nisabify will not accept a password that is known to have appeared in a data breach. We email you a link to confirm your address before you can sign in. You can also sign in with Google where Nisabify offers it, and with Sign in with Apple on iPhone and iPad.
- Keep your password, and the email, Google or Apple account you use with Nisabify, secure: anyone who can sign in with them can reach your Nisabify account. If you forget your password, choose Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we will email you a link to choose a new one. If you lose access to your email account, or to the Google or Apple account you sign in with, we may not be able to give you back your Nisabify account. Export your giving record (see Exporting, below) to keep your own copy. Sign in with Apple is offered on iPhone and iPad only, so an account you created with it may not be reachable on Android or on the website. If you think someone else has used your Nisabify account, tell us at info@mizanfintech.app.
- Please keep the information you enter accurate. You are responsible for what you enter and for the decisions you make with it.
- On the website: while you are signed in, the website keeps a copy of your information in that browser, as well as on your account. Closing the tab does not sign you out. When you sign out or delete your account on the website, that copy is removed from the browser; only your light or dark theme choice stays. If your session ends without you signing out, the copy stays in that browser until you sign in there again and then sign out, or until a different Nisabify account signs in there. Information entered in that browser before Nisabify had accounts is removed when you sign out only if you uploaded it to your account; otherwise it stays there until you erase it with Clear everything or delete your account in that browser. Clear everything in Settings signs you out and erases your information from that browser without deleting your account.
- Deleting your account: you can delete your account at any time with Delete account in Settings, on the website and in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps (step-by-step instructions). If you cannot sign in, email info@mizanfintech.app from the address on your account and we will help you delete it. Deletion cannot be undone. The Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and when.
- Exporting: you can export your giving record as a CSV file with Export CSV in Records, in the apps and on the website. On the website, Export JSON in Settings downloads the copy of your information held in that browser. Keep your own copy of any records you need, for example for your taxes.
9. Your information and records
- The information you put into Nisabify is yours. You allow us to store, process and display it to provide Nisabify to you and for the other purposes described in the Privacy Policy, such as keeping your account secure and complying with a valid legal order. Your school of fiqh is used only to work out your zakat, as described in the separate consent you gave for it. We do not sell your information, and Nisabify shows no ads.
- Some records are kept as history rather than overwritten, so that what you acted on can be checked later. In your account, a figure calculated on Nisabify’s server is saved as it was calculated and is not changed afterwards, a gift you remove is marked void rather than erased, and a holding you remove is archived. These records stay in your account until you delete it, or as the Privacy Policy describes.
10. Acceptable use
When you use Nisabify, please do not:
- use it for anything unlawful;
- try to get into another person’s account or information, or into any part of Nisabify you are not meant to reach;
- connect an account you are not authorized to access;
- probe, scan or test Nisabify’s security, or try to get around it, without our written permission;
- interfere with Nisabify or overload it, including with automated tools that make an unreasonable number of requests;
- copy, change, distribute or reverse-engineer Nisabify’s software, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- present Nisabify’s figures or methodology notes as a fatwa, as reviewed by a scholar, or as coming from a scholar;
- use Nisabify’s records to mislead anyone, for example by presenting them as a donation receipt, or as evidence of a gift you did not make.
If you think you have found a security problem, please tell us at info@mizanfintech.app, and do not access, change or keep information that is not yours.
11. Suspension and termination
- You can stop using Nisabify at any time, and you can delete your account as described in section 8.
- We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we need to in order to protect Nisabify, its users or others, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your records first.
- We may change, suspend or stop offering Nisabify or any part of it. If we decide to shut Nisabify down, we will give reasonable advance notice on the website and, where we can, in the apps, so that you can export your records.
- Sections 4, 5, 6 and 12 to 19 continue to apply after your use of Nisabify ends.
12. Intellectual property
- Nisabify’s software, design, name and logo, and the text Nisabify writes (including its methodology notes), belong to Nisabify or its licensors. The sources that Nisabify’s methodology cites belong to their own authors and publishers.
- We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Nisabify under these terms. It ends when your use of Nisabify ends, or if we end it under section 11.
- Apple, Google, Plaid and the charities Nisabify lists own their names and marks. Mentioning them does not mean they endorse Nisabify.
- If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
13. Other companies’ services
Nisabify relies on services run by other companies, and their own terms apply when you use them:
- Sign-in: if you sign in with Google, or with Apple on iPhone or iPad, Google’s or Apple’s terms apply to your Google Account or Apple Account.
- App stores: if you got the Nisabify app from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Nisabify or for supporting it. If you got the app from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service apply to your use of Google Play.
- Connecting accounts: Plaid (see section 7).
- Giving: the charities’ own websites (see section 6).
We are not responsible for services run by other companies.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
Nisabify is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.
In particular, we do not promise that Nisabify will be accurate, complete, available without interruption, secure or free of errors, or that any figure it produces is right for your situation. Some places do not allow some of these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- Nisabify will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost savings, lost data or the cost of substitute services, arising from or related to Nisabify or these terms;
- that includes losses that come from relying on a Nisabify figure, from a donation you made or did not make, from a tax position you took, or from a service run by another company;
- Nisabify’s total liability to you for all claims related to Nisabify or these terms is limited to US$100.
This applies whatever the legal basis of the claim, even if we were told that the loss was possible. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded.
16. Indemnity
If someone else makes a claim against Nisabify because you broke these terms, broke the law, or violated someone else’s rights while using Nisabify, you agree to cover Nisabify’s reasonable losses and costs from that claim, including reasonable legal fees. This does not apply to the extent the claim was caused by our own fault. We will tell you about any such claim promptly and let you take part in the defence.
17. Governing law and disputes
- These terms, and any dispute about them or about Nisabify, are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
- If you have a concern, please contact us first at info@mizanfintech.app. We will both try to resolve it informally for 30 days before either of us goes to court.
- Any lawsuit must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you and Nisabify agree to those courts’ jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies.
- Nothing in this section takes away any right you have under the consumer-protection laws of the place where you live that cannot be waived by agreement.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top.
If a change materially reduces your rights, we will give at least 30 days’ notice on the website and, where we can, in the apps before it takes effect, unless the change is required by law or needed urgently for security.
If you keep using Nisabify after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you do not agree to them, stop using Nisabify and delete your account.
19. General
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Nisabify about the service.
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- If we do not enforce part of these terms straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours to an organization that takes over operating Nisabify; if that happens, we will tell you, and these terms will continue to protect you.
- The headings and the short version at the top are there to help you read these terms. They do not change what the terms say.
